Jenny talks about her life growing up in rural Texas, how she got out, how she came back, and all the various adventures. It's freaking hilarious, y'all. Some of the things I couldn't believe actually happened to her, but for some reason I just don't doubt her. Jenny is eloquent and witty, saying all the right things to make you keep turning the page.
One thing I was particularly fond of was how she would write about very emotional episodes in her life, but would turn it into something hilarious. It reminded me a lot of how we should view life; while sad and bad things happen to us, we can always fall back on humor to get us through. You have to make fun of yourself to get through life, and that's exactly what Jenny does. She has real problems and real issues, but she turned it around and made fun of it. That is what I truly admire.
“Because you are defined not by life's imperfect moments, but by your reaction to them. And because there is joy in embracing - rather than running from - the utter absurdity of life.”
So if you're looking for a fun and easy read, definitely pick this one up. I promise you won't regret it!
What are you reading right now?
Strangely I'm never drawn to memoirs and the like, but I've read a fair share of them, and have never really read one I didn't like! There's something so simple and easy and candid in reading them - will have to give this one a try!
ReplyDeleteThis one is seriously so funny. I don't even understand her life but I just had to keep turning the page! I think you'll really enjoy it!
DeleteI need a book for an upcoming trip I'm going on! Thanks for the rec :)
ReplyDeleteTake this one, it's so light and laugh-out-loud funny!!
DeleteI'm not done yet (apparently I'm a very slow reader) but I just love it!
ReplyDeleteGirl no worries, it took me about 1.5 weeks to finish it. I am totally in the slow reader's book club too. But you will not be disappointed in the final chapters!
