fashion friday: what i wish i was wearing

Guys, I don't know how fall is going in your towns, but here I'm still sweating every time I walk outside...

92 degrees is too hot for the end of September!!

I wish I was wearing more fall clothes.

what i wish i was wearing

I know these items have a "too bright" or "too dark" tone to them, but I really just want the big sweaters, jeans, boots, and scarves to come back into my life.

What fall fashions are you excited to wear/already wearing?

Things I Love Thursday: I'm BAAACK!

(source)
Hey y'all! Sorry I took an unexpected break, but it was much needed after some crazy stuff going on. These events reminded me to focus on the positives and not the negatives because there's no need to dwell on them. Today is a day to celebrate those positive moments!

1. My cat got hit by a car last week, and broke his jaw in two parts. Luckily, he is doing well after reconstructive surgery and eating and drinking on his own! Quite hard with a wired jaw, but he's proven to be a tough little cookie. I'm so happy that he feels back to (almost) normal and being his regular self. Wish I was there to be with him, though!

2. Guess who kicked the "10-day" cold from work in only 6 days?! THIS GIRL. Still have some congestion but it's nothing like what I was going through before. Didn't take a day off work, either!

3. To go with #2, orange juice is magical. A glass or two a day I believe made all the difference!

4. Went river floating for the first time over the weekend! It was so much fun with perfect weather and beautiful scenery. One of the only perks of it still being 90 degrees at the end of September. ;)

5. Found and bought a plug-in for my car to play songs from my iPod! Do you know how hard it is to find a cigarette lighter plug-in?! Terribly difficult. But now my rides to and from work are much more enjoyable with Jay-Z and Beyonce songs!

6. All my friends are the best. I couldn't ask for better people in my life. When life throws you down, it's nice to know there are several people there to offer a helping hand. I don't know where I would be without good friends!

staying positive.

After some recent events, I really needed a pick-me-up. My favorite is looking through eecards and just laughing. Some things in life you can't help, but you have to laugh through all the pain.

Here are some of my favorites; hope they bring a smile to your face!

Things I Love Thursday! :)

(source)
1. After several years of collecting dust bunnies for pets, I finally brought my violin out and tuned him up. I played a few scales and it was like falling in love all over again. Such a relaxing feeling.

2. Soooo I bought the Hunchback of Notre Dame soundtrack on a whim and now I can't stop listening to it on repeat. Remember Heaven's Light? Still brings tears to my eyes.

3. Drove around town for about an hour and it was wonderful to feel the crisp fall breeze in my hair!

4. Work at 4am doesn't seem so bad when you're out of the building by noon!

5. I do not condone doing hard drugs but this livetweet of Brad doing acid had me rolling on the floor laughing!

6. Found my favorite mug the other day! I don't know why it was hiding in a drawer, but now it's back in my possession and constantly holding tea. YAY!

What are you loving this Thursday?

i'm a julep maven!!

Following a lot of other people with the box infatuation, I decided to join up and become a Julep Maven. Not only do I love their nail polishes but they give you so many options -- you can buy boxes from other months, send a box to a friend, or decide to skip for that month. I love choices and this all seemed perfect for me. So, I got my first box the other day!

When you first sign up, you get to take a quiz to determine your 'style'. I got Classic With a Twist, so my boxes are supposed to reflect that. Don't like what style you're getting for that month? You can actually change your box to get a style you think you'll like more! SO. MANY. OPTIONS!!

sorry it's messy, i suck at nail polish application. :(
I got some foot cream and two lovely nail polish shades. "Rose" is a nice, hot pink while "Kate" is a sophisticated white. I love "Rose" because it's so bright; sorry it photographed sorta red!

I haven't been able to try out the foot cream yet, but it actually smells nice! Not like the other foot creams...

Oh, God, we gave you foot cream instead of face wash!                           yesssss, I just did that...

Will you become a Julep Maven, too?

book review: let's pretend this never happened

(source)
I'm not one for memoirs. I don't read many autobiographies, biographies, etc. But Jenny Lawson's Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) had me rolling on the floor laughing so much that I had to rethink my original opinion on memoirs.

Jenny talks about her life growing up in rural Texas, how she got out, how she came back, and all the various adventures. It's freaking hilarious, y'all. Some of the things I couldn't believe actually happened to her, but for some reason I just don't doubt her. Jenny is eloquent and witty, saying all the right things to make you keep turning the page.

One thing I was particularly fond of was how she would write about very emotional episodes in her life, but would turn it into something hilarious. It reminded me a lot of how we should view life; while sad and bad things happen to us, we can always fall back on humor to get us through. You have to make fun of yourself to get through life, and that's exactly what Jenny does. She has real problems and real issues, but she turned it around and made fun of it. That is what I truly admire.

“Because you are defined not by life's imperfect moments, but by your reaction to them. And because there is joy in embracing - rather than running from - the utter absurdity of life.”

So if you're looking for a fun and easy read, definitely pick this one up. I promise you won't regret it!

weekend update: the one with a new dresser

Hey y'all! Hope your weekend was awesome and not too busy. ;) Linking up with the lovely ladies above!

This weekend was spent trying to get my new dresser in and get my old dresser out. Sometime during the move (I guess, I'm really not sure) one of the legs broke and the siding started coming apart. Meaning, the drawers were janky and the whole thing was unstable. Very annoying, especially when your tv, jewelry box, and iPod player has a permanent home on it. Just saying.

So after about 6 phone calls and praying that it would not rain after 5pm, I got my new dresser delivered! And due to my impatience, I ended up moving the old dresser into my spare room until someone can come pick it up. If I can't find anyone, I'm destroying the thing and turning it into firewood. Mwahaha!

gross, broken, old dresser
the main problem :(
shiny, beautiful, new dresser!
Besides all the moving stuff I just reorganized my bedroom and spare room, paid bills, and cleaned. Lots of cleaning. Lots of laundry, too. I lead a boring life!

But it was not boring taking advantage of the 4 for $15 sale at Bath and Body Works! Woooo pumpkin smells!

fashion friday: Green Bay Packers

In honor of the Packers winning last night, here's a cute outfit to wear to your next party or to the stands. :)

go pack go!

Even though I haven't had a chance to try the colored denim trend, I love how you can make such a bold statement with them. Green and yellow are fun to pair things with, and adding a touch of gold can make your outfit stand out even more while staying in the color scheme!

Things I Love Thursday

(source)
1. There are slim pickings around this town, so it's always nice when the pretty man at work says hi to you. ;)

2. What's even better is when the pretty man that says hi to you wears nice fitting pants. Is it getting hot in here or is it just me?!

3. I've been given an opportunity to do a round-table discussion with other professionals at a conference in Kansas City. Even if I'm not able to go it's just awesome getting the chance! It's the little things!

4. By the way things are going, October is going to be a hella busy month for me! It makes me appreciate the relaxing weekends I have left in September.

5. There are several new collections that came out at Target recently, but I'm especially loving this collaboration!

6. FINALLY got myself a pumpkin spice latte!! How sad is it that took me so long?! Me and my long lost love were back together and it was beautiful.

Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real.

I don't think anyone has spoken truer words than Tupac.

Part of me debated making this a blog post, since it seemed very me-centric and I tend to shy away from things that feature me heavily. I just like working on DIYs and fantasy outfits and sharing music.

But, I think I need to say this. In case anyone out there is going through something similar to me I have a message for you & even if you haven't gone through what I have, it's always good to have a reminder.

When I was 7 years old, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I always knew I wanted to do something with medicine, but now I had a dachshund puppy to take care and I loved him so much my heart would burst just looking at him. It seemed so obvious. Couple that with grandpa bonding time on the dairy farm, watching calves being born and waking up early for milking. Deep down, I always knew animals would be a huge part of my life.

The big turning point was when I was 12 and my dog died from a slipped disc in his back. I worked with him tirelessly for 2 months, doing water rehabilitation to try and bring feeling back into his hind legs. When he died, I vowed to become an amazing veterinarian to try and save animals from what I went through. I would never wish that kind of heartache on anyone.

I worked hard in middle school. I worked hard in high school. I got into colleges and decided on Oklahoma State, a lot of it because I loved their vet school. I was set. I knew what I wanted.

Somewhere along the way, I lost part of the passion. Yeah, I volunteered and loved my classes, but somewhere along the line I got scared. Could I really get into vet school? Was I smart enough? How could I afford 4 more years? Could I mentally get through more school right now? It was a gut-wrenching decision, but I decided to take a break from school and get a job.

You know, making money is nice, but there was always a gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach. I would wake up asking myself "What are you doing? This is not you." For the most part, I ignored it.

Then, one morning, I woke up and a voice told me "This is not you. Being a veterinarian is you." I felt like crying, because I felt like God was pushing me and making me not ignore him. The message was clear: I wasn't completely happy, I wasn't doing what I loved, and I knew it.

So, thus begins my journey with emails, advisors, grades, GRE preparations, and really going after what I've always wanted.

Let me tell you -- if you need a break, take it. But don't fool yourself in not doing what you absolutely love! The road is always tough and full of bumps, but you'll kick yourself in the end if you don't just do it. I go to work in a better mood now because I know I'm at least working towards the goal. And I know that even if I don't get into vet school, I tried my hardest. And in the end, that's all that really matters.

I wish everyone Godspeed on working towards their dreams, no matter what they are. :)

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." ~ Walt Disney

Weekend Update: back to the college town

Friday: Right after work I high-tail it out for the 4 hour drive to Stillwater! It was a beautiful drive, pretty easy, and practically no traffic. Just 30 minutes before I get to my friend's place, I hit the torrential downpour of the year.

Yikes!

I made it to my friend Jordan's place around 8:30, grabbed dinner, then we talked until 4 am. It was awesome to just catch up on everything.

Saturday: Closed my old bank account, serviced my car, met up with Rachelle and Jordan for lunch, and realized I'm terrible at taking pictures. Seriously, I am. I forget all the darn time.

Anyways, after lunch and some catching up I visited my old roomies Chels and Nat. We ate dinner and got ready to go out. :) First was a house party, then the bars! It was so much fun and I had a freaking blast. Again, stayed up till 4am eating Jack in the Box, watching 40 Days and 40 Nights, and drinking a bottle of wine. Yay!

Sunday: Because my body hates me, I got up at 8am for no apparent reason. Dumb. I had a hair appointment at noon and got some blonde and red put in my hair. :) It's so awesome and reminds me of fall; my hairdresser Meagan did an awesome job. If you're ever in the area, you need to visit her! She'll do an amazing job, I promise!

Had lunch with Chels (Nat was working), said good-bye, and headed back home. Got back around 9, and stayed up until 1am working on fixing my scanner. Ugh.

Such a fun weekend, I really needed it!

Linking up with these lovely ladies. ;)

Sunday Social: All About the Blog

Sunday Social

Happy to be linking up today for a Sunday Social! :) Hopefully y'all like these random facts about my blog. I promise I'm working on an about me/get to know me post, it'll be up soon!

1. What is the name of your blog and how did you come up with it??
Wildflower at Heart; I was having issues naming the blog in the beginning, so this name kinda came from a bunch of random things. I love gardening and photographing flowers, so that's where the wildflower came in. One of my friends added how it should sound like 'wild at heart' because I love animals, and the idea just stuck!

2. What do you love the most about blogging??
This is going to sound cheesy, but I love everything about writing and meeting people through my words. I love writing and English, so being able to make people happy with something I have to say makes me the most happy. One of my ultimate dreams is to write a book, and blogging is a perfect avenue for practicing to prepare for the big piece.

3. What are your 2 favorite posts you've written?
Huh, this ones hard... I would have to say my little bit on wallet feng shui and the DIY on sharpies with ceramics!

4. What is something you'd want to tell someone just starting out in blog world?
Schedule yourself. You don't have to write everyday, but have some sort of an idea of what you want to write about. I think it works better that way to pace yourself. Also, don't worry about having a set "block" you fit into. Just share what you love!!

5. Biggest blogging learning experience you've had?
Putting myself out there with swaps and link-ups! You're inviting other people to get to know you and (personally) worry about getting something wrong in a swap. I hate disappointing people, so link-ups and swaps make me more conscious of what I would like to see/read!

6. Give us 3 blogs we NEED to be following that you love.
Chris at Chubbette Tales... Life After Spanx

Kristin at my life as a teacup

Kaelah at little chief honeybee.

These people are awesome and you should definitely check them out!!

Hope you have a lovely Sunday!

fashion friday: college football!

I love college football. It's sad not being in college and having games to look forward to. I used to live for college game days! Since I was a northerner going to a school in the south, I learned how to dress up for tailgates and the game. Now I'm in love with looking my best, even if it's 100 degrees outside!

OSU game day!

This would be my ideal game day outfit. I wear sandals everywhere and luckily Oklahoma State's campus isn't filled with too much gravel. I love the bright skirt (just ignore that it's made of wool!) and accessorizing with black. Hopefully nothing would get spilled on that white shirt, though!

If you like how this looks, drop your school in the comment box and I'll try to make an outfit every Friday for your game day! :)

Things I Love Thursday

(source)
1. I'm finally making the pilgrimage to my college town, and I couldn't be more excited! I haven't been there since early May; I'm way overdue for a visit!

2. The reason I'm traveling this weekend is actually because one of my old roomies just turned 21 on Labor Day!! She already had a party but I promised her a long time ago that I would take her out for birthday shots. I stay good on my promises. ;)

3. Finally getting a haircut on Sunday! I'm getting a trim (to make my round face look less fat) and getting some color put in. I just don't know if I want to go lighter or darker! Ideally I would be putting purple in my hair this time around!

4. Despite the homesickness, living in the new town is getting easier day by day. I've met some nice people and making new friends to hang out with makes it all bearable. Believe me, I still wish I was close to home but it's not such an aching feeling anymore!

5. Just found my new acne-busting love -- antibacterial lotion. I know this is an icky subject, but I've never seen blemishes go away so quickly! It's probably a bad thing to use on your face, but YOLO (yeah, I just did that!)

6. More on this with another post but -- I've finally decided to crack down and apply for vet school! I've already started on the application process, all that's left is I just need to get studying for the GRE and contacting schools concerning grades. I'm really excited and ready to push my fears aside and do this!!

weekend update: skies

My Labor Day weekend was awesome: tons of sleeping, got some crafts done, bought myself some stuff, and relaxed with new friends. Pretty successful weekend, if I do say so!

But one thing from this weekend really reminded me why I love the south -- the skies out here are freaking amazing! That might sound weird, but I just noticed on all my drives how beautiful the sky looked. There were rainbows and pink sunrises and tons of sun rays. It was a spectacular sight.

the rain in the distance. :)
beautiful
drive to work!
this rainbow was huge! drive home from work for the weekend!
Note to everyone: taking pictures while driving a vehicle is very dangerous and dumb. What can I say, I'm not a very intelligent person. Oops!

songs about autumn

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Labor Day, relaxing around the house or outside or just taking a bajillion naps. It's been a wonderful three day weekend for me and I'm even more excited for just a four day work week! Just so many wonderful things already starting this September.

To switch things up a bit, here's a playlist of all my favorite songs about autumn. It's the most wonderful time of the year! Also reminds me that I need to get thinking about what my Halloween costume will be...

Happy Labor Day!
